Shipping Instructions
Step 2: Fill Out Form. Print out this taxidermy tag. Complete the form and sign the bottom. Place in a small plastic bag so moisture will not blur the writing. Contact us (605-228-0661) to let us know what/when you are shipping so we are ready to receive your specimen. If you call and we are unable to answer, leave us a message or send a text. We will get back to you.
Step 1: Harvest and Freeze. The bird should be frozen as soon as possible after being killed. For a bird, wrap the head in a paper towel, gently bend the neck, and place the head next to the body. All specimens should be double bagged in a ziploc bag or trash bag. Squeeze out as much air as possible, and make sure you have an airtight seal. Then put your specimen in the freezer until it is frozen solid.
Step 3: Pack. Get a cardboard box about 2 - 3 times the size of your specimen. (You can also use a purchased shippable styrofoam box.) Use cellulose insulation, shredded paper, or crumpled newspapers to layer the bottom of the box. Take your frozen-solid specimen from the freezer and put it in the box. Pack firmly all around it with shredded paper, crumpled newspapers, or cellulose insulation. Place the completed form (from Step 2) in the box. This form meets the U. S. Fish & Wildlife Service tagging requirements for migratory birds Shipping a waterfowl specimen is illegal without this information. Tape the box shut.
Step 4: Ship. We recommend using Fedex or UPS. (Speedee delivery service is another option if you live in the upper Midwest.) We do not recommend USPS. Ship on a Monday or Tuesday. This ensures your specimen won’t be at the mercy of weekend holdovers. If you’re shipping the speciment in cool months (late fall or winter) standard shipping is fine. If it’s summertime or temperatures are still high, ship the specimen via two-day air. Send to the following address:
